副詞連接詞 (Adverbial Conjunctions)

副詞連接詞又稱連接副詞 (Conjunctive Adverbs)。基本上「副詞連接詞」還是個副詞,但其功能如同對等連接詞,把兩個獨立⼦句串聯起來,以「副詞連接詞」引領的⼦句,形同類副詞(Adverbial),用來修飾另一子句。

副詞連接詞是一種轉折詞,它代表從一個概念轉移到另一個概念,在兩個概念之間搭上一座橋樑,建立起連貫性,使語義的表達能更加順暢。正確使用轉折詞可以大幅提升您的寫作能力。

香煙要花錢; 而且,這對你有害。

香煙要花錢; 除此之外,這還對你有害。


這裡有兩個概念:一個是香煙要花錢;另一個是香煙對你有害。他們都有負面的共通點,把這兩個概念用副詞連接詞 furthermore (此外,而且)、moreover (再者,不僅如此) 、in addition (除此之外) 串聯起來,建立起連貫性,使語義的表達能更加順暢。furthermore, moreover, in addition 意思幾乎相同,可以互相替換。

使用副詞連接詞時,通常以分號『;』和逗號『,』加諸於副詞連接詞前後,並置於兩個獨立子句之中。

副詞連接詞並非連接詞,它不具備連接兩個子句的文法功能,所以要借助分號和逗號來連接兩個子句。

Linda wanted the job very much; however, she had no related work experience.

琳達非常想得到這份工作,然而她沒有相關的工作經驗。

這裡有兩個概念:一個是琳達非常想要這份工作;另一個她沒有相關的工作經驗。把這兩個對比的概念用副詞連接詞 however串聯起來,建立起連貫性,句子變得漂亮多了。

He is guilty; therefore, he should be punished.

他是有罪的,因此他應該受到懲罰。

兩個概念:他是有罪的;另一個是他應該受到懲罰。這兩個概念有因果關係,用副詞連接詞 therefore 串聯起來,建立起連貫性:有罪就該受罰。

He rarely seems to study; nevertheless, he always gets the highest score in the class.

他似乎很少唸書;儘管如此,他總是在班上拿最高分。

兩個對比的概念:他很少唸書;可是他卻拿最高分,用副詞連接詞 nevertheless 串聯起來,建立起連貫性,使語義的表達更加順暢。
